Contribution overview

Retro Race was my Final Major Project before being graduated from the University of the Arts London. They aim of this project is to regroup all the elements and skills aquired in all the years of studies.

I worked on this project alongside Emma Landolfini, one of my classmates from UAL. We decided to distribute every task of this project according to our skills and priorities to make it in time for deadline.

Overall, I was in charge of the game's devellopment, design, feedback implementation, and part of the assets modeling.

Work Details

We decided to design this project believing it could suit a specific audience of arcade lovers that have been waiting for a polished synthwave-theme game. As you may have guessed, Retro Race is a driving game with a personnal take on time control.

The aim of the game is to complete each level before the timer reaches its limit. To do so, the player has control over the car on the ground as well as in the air. However, it is very hard to complete each level within the required time. To make it easyer to approach for the player, we decided to add collectibles similar to the already famous Sonic Rings, that provide you with 0.2 seconds each that can be stacked and used to rewind time. Giving enough choice to the player so he can complete his run the way he likes it

In The original Design the game visuals was suposed to have each level represent a famous city (Singapore, Tokyo, Hong Kong ...), but we ended up prefering to adopt a more flashy 80's Retrowave look.

The game is finished and submited, feel free to try it and drop us a feedback !
